Understanding Spirituality at All Saints Academy

At All Saints Church of England Academy, we believe that spirituality is an innate part of being human. It is the ongoing journey of exploring who we are, our place in the world, our relationships with others, and our understanding of God. Rooted in the Church of England vision of enabling all people to flourish and experience "life in all its fullness" (John 10:10), we recognise that spirituality is not confined to Religious Education or Collective Worship but is woven through every aspect of school life and enables all members of the community to flourish through opportunities for reflection, awe and wonder, and personal growth.

We understand spirituality through the simple framework of Looking Inwards, Looking Outwards and Looking Upwards, helping all members of our community to develop a deeper awareness of themselves, others and God.

Looking Inwards

We encourage pupils and staff to reflect on their own thoughts, feelings, beliefs, values and experiences. Through opportunities for reflection, prayer, discussion, journaling, mentoring, personal development and moments of stillness, individuals are supported to develop self-awareness, resilience, purpose and identity. We invite young people to ask important questions about who they are, what they value and how they can contribute positively to the world.

Looking Outwards

We inspire our community to engage with and respond to the world around them with compassion, justice and responsibility. Pupils are encouraged to develop empathy, appreciate diversity, care for creation and recognise their role in serving others. Through curriculum experiences, charitable work, courageous advocacy, leadership opportunities and community engagement, we foster a sense of awe and wonder alongside a commitment to making a positive difference.

Looking Upwards

As a Church school, we create opportunities for pupils and staff to explore life's deepest questions and to encounter the Christian faith. Through Collective Worship, Religious Education, prayer, reflection and engagement with scripture, we encourage individuals to consider what lies beyond the material world and to develop an awareness of God's presence and purpose. We recognise that members of our community come from a range of faith backgrounds and worldviews, and we seek to create a culture where everyone can explore questions of meaning, hope, faith and existence with openness and respect.

How We Embrace Spirituality

Spiritual development is intentionally embedded across the life of the academy through:

  • A curriculum that promotes wonder, curiosity, reflection and deep thinking.
  • Daily opportunities for collective worship, prayer and reflection.
  • Strong relationships founded on our Christian vision and values.
  • Moments of stillness and reflection within lessons and tutor time.
  • Opportunities for service, leadership and courageous advocacy.
  • Creative, cultural and enrichment experiences that inspire awe and wonder.
  • Engagement with nature and stewardship of God's creation.
  • Safe spaces where pupils can explore questions of identity, purpose, faith and meaning.

Through our approach of Looking Inwards, Looking Outwards and Looking Upwards, we seek to help every member of our community grow in wisdom, character and faith, enabling them to flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually, and to live out our Christian vision in service of others.
